City & The Region
Great place to live, fantastic place to study!
Newcastle is the regional capital of the North East and renowned as one of the best cities for students in the UK. A vibrant student population and a warm and friendly atmosphere make it popular with students from far and wide.

A cosmopolitan city...
Newcastle is a great place to socialise with an excellent choice from literally hundreds of quality restaurants and cafes catering for every taste. From Chinese banquets to a quick snack for lunch, or just a coffee and muffin with friends at one of the many street cafes where you can sit and watch the world go by. The choice is yours!
A party city...
Newcastle has a full programme of entertainment and events throughout the year: street parties on our famous Quayside at Christmas and New Year; the Hoppings (Europe's largest travelling fair!); music, comedy, dance, film, and Chinese and Irish festivals throughout the year, it seems there's always something going on!
A city for shopping...
Whether looking for clothes, music, electrical goods, sports gear or just browsing then Newcastle has a shop for you! The College is within easy walking distance of Eldon Square and Monument Mall and the Metro Centre (one of the largest shopping malls in Europe) is only a short journey away. Your NUS card will entitle you to discounts in many clothing shops such as Top Shop and Pilot and also record stores like HMV and Virgin Megastore. Also - not to be missed - is the Quayside street market held every Sunday. If you're looking for a bargain there are over 200 stalls selling clothes, cds, records, books and more.
A city for entertainment
If you like the movies you can catch the latest blockbuster at the Odeon multiscreen cinema in The Gate entertainment complex or maybe you'd prefer a visit to the Tyneside Cinema - Newcastle's independent cinema showing the latest foreign film releases and classics of the silver screen.
If you are keen on live music - world renowned bands and performers play at the Metro Radio Arena close to our City Centre Campus. This massive indoor entertainment venue also holds rock nights, dance nights, ice hockey games and world wrestling tournaments. And don't forget The Sage Gateshead, just across the river. This brand new music venue consists of 2 concert halls, rehearsal rooms and a music education and resource centre.
A city for sport...
Sport is important in our city and we are the home to top teams such as Premiership football club Newcastle United, Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club, and Newcastle Eagles Basketball Club all regularly entertaining thousands of adoring fans.
The city also hosts the Great North Run - Europe's largest participation half-marathon.
and transport...
Our city is easy to get around whether you are on foot, in the car, on our many regular buses or by our own underground system - The Metro.
If you wish to travel a little further afield, regular trains leave for the UK's main cities from Newcastle Central Station. We also have our own international airport for those travelling to or coming from abroad.
A city for culture...
Newcastle has a host of theatres, museums and galleries. The Theatre Royal plays host to the Royal Shakespeare Company, the ballet, musicals and touring plays many direct from the London's West End. Newcastle Playhouse and the Gulbenkian Studio Theatre are home to the renowned Northern Stage and Live Theatre and People's Theatre all offer a rich variety of theatrical entertainment.
Our city is also home to several renowned art galleries including the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, the Laing Art Gallery and the Biscuit Factory. Don't miss the striking modern 'Blue Carpet' artwork outside of the Laing!
A city for the 21st Century...
Newcastle and Gateshead are joined by the stylish and innovative Millennium Bridge, an eye-catching sight and pleasant way to cross the Tyne to the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and The Sage in Gateshead. For an interesting day out of college, why not visit the International Centre for Life, just moments from our Rye Hill Campus.
...at the heart of a great region
A small journey out of Newcastle in any direction and you are in an area rich in beauty and heritage. You can visit castles and long golden beaches, breathtaking countryside and a landscape largely unspoilt. The North East is alive with history - the legacy of the Roman Empire at Hadrian's Wall; early English Christianity at Lindisfarne and the beginnings of the industrial revolution.
